Sports wagering in Mississippi experienced a downturn in June, marking the third consecutive month of diminishing bets. Mississippi residents wagered a total of $25.1 million on sporting events in June, a significant decrease compared to the previous year. This represents a substantial drop from the $43.1 million wagered in June 2021. It also signifies a decline from the $29.2 million wagered in May.
The revenue generated from these wagers also experienced a dip. In June, casinos earned $2.1 million, a considerable decrease compared to the $3.2 million earned in June 2021 and the $4 million earned in May.
The coastal casinos remain the most popular betting destinations in Mississippi. Residents wagered $17.3 million there in June, and the casinos generated $1.3 million from these wagers.
Casinos in the central region of the state witnessed $4.5 million in wagers, generating $464,667 in revenue. Casinos in the northern region saw $3.3 million in wagers, resulting in $339,142 in revenue.
Baseball emerged as the most popular sport for wagering in June. Coastal residents wagered $8.8 million on baseball, central region residents wagered $1.5 million, and northern residents wagered $1.3 million.
The Mississippi Gaming Control Board reported that casinos in the state retained 8.30% of the total amount wagered in June.
