Pennsylvania Online Slots Hit Record High in October

The Keystone State’s online slot machine income reached an all-time peak in October. Gambling earnings in Pennsylvania saw a 5.7% rise in October compared to the same period the previous year, due to a record-breaking performance by the state’s online slots sector. The total income for the month reached $450.2 million, surpassing the $425.9 million recorded in October 2021 and exceeding September’s $448.5 million by a small margin. Traditional slot machines remained the primary revenue source, generating $199 million, although this figure showed a 2.1% decrease year-over-year. Revenue from land-based table games also experienced a decline, falling by 10.4% to $79.3 million. Online slots surpassed land-based table games to become the state’s second-largest gambling revenue source, generating a record $86.3 million, representing a 22.1% increase year-over-year. Online table game revenue also saw a rise of 21.8%, reaching $35.7 million, but internet poker revenue experienced a 12.7% decrease to $2.5 million. Pennsylvania’s Hollywood Casino maintained its dominant position in the state’s online gambling market, with online gambling revenue reaching $52.7 million. Philadelphia’s Rivers Casino came in second with $29.3 million, followed by Valley Forge Casino Resort with $23.4 million. Turning to sports betting, revenue saw a significant increase of 72.2% year-over-year, reaching $40.5 million, with $34.4 million coming from online wagering and $6.1 million from retail outlets. The state’s monthly handle also saw a small increase of 2.7%, reaching $797.1 million.

The Valley Forge Gaming Destination teamed up with FanDuel to secure the leading position, recording $292 million in bets and $22.1 million in earnings. Closely trailing were Hollywood Meadows Gaming House and Barstool, which generated $78 million and $231.1 million in wagers, respectively, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh and BetRivers garnered $2.6 million in income on $33.4 million in wagers.

In the meantime, video gaming terminal income increased by 5.2% to $3.5 million in October, while fantasy sports betting income declined by 12.7% to $2.5 million.
