The Kingdom of Cambodia is taking a firm stance against illicit gaming activities. In accordance with the Prime Minister’s directives, the administration is intensifying its efforts to suppress clandestine gambling operations.
The Cambodian gaming regulatory body (CGMC) recently released a new mandate to combat these unlawful practices. The mandate, endorsed by the Minister of Economy and Finance, who also oversees the CGMC, stresses the importance of upholding existing regulations, particularly in response to the Prime Minister’s recent plea for tighter control of illegal gaming, especially with regards to lottery schemes.
Authorized operators are being reminded of their obligation to prominently exhibit their licenses and conduct their operations within the confines of the law at all times. The mandate also stipulates that local authorities must collaborate closely with the CGMC to carry out routine inspections of gaming establishments to guarantee their legitimacy.
This intensified enforcement effort highlights the government’s apprehension that unlawful gaming, particularly unlicensed lottery operations, is detrimental to communities and disrupts societal harmony. The message is unambiguous: gaming enterprises must function within the parameters of the law if they wish to maintain their operations in Cambodia.
Authorities have released a strict caution regarding the consequences of unlawful wagering, which may involve monetary penalties spanning from $1,225 to $5,000 and a maximum of five years of incarceration. Law enforcement bodies are being instructed to suppress all types of illicit betting, highlighting a joint endeavor to cease these activities.
