Brigid Simmonds, the present head of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), will leave her post in April 2024. Simmonds has occupied this position since the BGC’s formation in 2019, bringing extensive experience from her ten years as Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association. Michael Dugher, the BGC’s CEO, lauded Simmonds for her considerable input to the group, emphasizing her part in founding the BGC and uniting representatives from all sectors of the industry. He also praised her guidance in promoting positive development and elevating benchmarks for responsible gaming practices. Dugher will take on the role of Chair following Simmonds’ exit. The quest for a new CEO will commence promptly, led by an outside recruitment agency.
Thrilled to usher in a fresh Chief Executive this spring! As Chair, I’m eager to expand upon the remarkable achievements we’ve accomplished as a team. We’ve truly disrupted the sector, elevating benchmarks and advocating for the countless individuals employed within it. Our core focus remains ensuring the millions who partake in a bit of wagering can do so securely and ethically.
Being a part of the BGC since its founding in 2019 has been a privilege, representing the needs of over 100,000 staff in the regulated wagering and gambling domain. I’m deeply appreciative of the backing from the Executive Committee, my peers, our affiliates, charitable organizations, and stakeholders. Our joint efforts have yielded substantial progress, particularly in enhancing standards throughout the industry. Our close partnership with governing bodies has also resulted in some truly pragmatic and impactful changes, all detailed in the latest white paper.”
